Kazamatsuri Shou is the only son of Shiomi Kensuke, a J-league player famous for his ability to score goals from almost zero angles. After Shiomi and his wife, Kaori died in a car accident, Shou was adopted by Kaori's brother, Kazamatsuri Mamoru. Shou didn't know all this until much later, and it doesn't change his love and acceptance for the family that has brought him up. We see Shou mostly living with his older brother, Kou, who has quit school and works in a model agency (in the manga, he works as a host).

From an early age, Shou has thought of soccer and little else. His height is a disadvantage for him, and has brought him nowhere on the Musashinomori soccer team. He transfers to Sakura Jousui, where he learns about friendship, teamwork, self-confidence, and of course soccer. In time Shou is chosen to join the Tokyo Senbatsu team.

In the last volume of the manga, the Tokyo Senbatsu team plays against the Kansai Senbatsu team. It is in this match that Shou gets a serious knee injury that stops him from playing soccer. He goes to Germany to rehabilitate, and returns three years later.
